English Communication for Librarians and Information Professionals (EC-LIP) (ตอนที่ 1)

จากการเรียนวิชา English Communication for Librarians and Information Professionals (EC-LIP) จำนวน 12 ชั่วโมงนั้น เพื่อให้สมาชิกทั้ง Digital Literacy CoP และ Training the Trainers CoP ได้เรียนรู้ทักษะการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการสื่อสารในวิชาชีพของตนเอง โดยวิทยากร คือ รองศาสตราจารย์ สุชาดา นิมมานต์นิตย์ ได้ออกแบบหลักสูตร ซึ่งประกอบด้วยเนื้อหาที่มีความเฉพาะสำหรับบรรณารักษ์ อาจารย์ได้จัดเตรียมเนื้อหา เพื่อให้ผู้เข้าเรียนศึกษาและฝึกฝนด้วยตนเองก่อนเข้าชั้นเรียน มีทฤษฎี มีการฝึกฝน และหัดพูดในชั้นเรียน และสุดท้ายรวมเอาทฤษฎีทุกอย่างที่เรียนและที่มอบหมาย มานำเสนอในชั้นเรียน

ซึ่งจากบทความนี้ ผู้เขียนได้จำแนกทักษะ ความรู้ และคุณสมบัติที่บรรณารักษ์ในยุคเว็บ 2.0 ควรจะมี 8 ประการ ได้แก่

  1. Technology. The librarians in a Web 2.0 world need to be aware of what technology is available, what it can do and how to make it serve the needs of the users.
  2. Learning and education. They  need to engage in lifelong learning.
  3. Research and evidence-based practice. They need to do research to develop best practice, standards and establish benchmarking.
  4. User focus. These librarians love to work with people, enjoy diversity of the users and help establish communities of users.
  5. Business savvy. They need to be business savvy: they have project management skills,   They are outcome-oriented, good at time management, making decision and solving problems.
  6. Communication skills. Librarians must be able to use the language to persuade or influence people.  A good presentation skill is very important for them.
  7. Collaboration and teamwork. Librarians must be able to work in team and to establish partnership and good working relation with IT professionals and experts in various fields.
  8. Personal traits. These librarians have vision, spark, and creativity. They know how to lead and motivate. Librarian 2.0 is adaptable, flexible, persistent, and resilient. In short, nothing fazes them. Librarian 2.0 is a self-starter who has no fear and is willing to move outside of a comfort zone. He or she is proactive and willing to take calculated risks. The 2.0 librarian aims for excellence not perfection.
