Free English Abstract Correction Service from the Thammasat University Libraries

As announced on the website of the Thammasat University Libraries, to promote research and publications on all levels of study, the TU Libraries offer a free English abstract editing service. It is available for all TU students on the undergraduate and graduate school levels, as well as faculty and staff. The service is accessible at the webpage http://203.131.219.178/abs/.  Just submit an online form with file attachment. Abstracts are checked and edited for issues in English writing style, usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. The file with suggested corrections and improvements will be returned by e-mail within 3 business days. For more information, please call 02 613 3506 or write to pimtu@tu.ac.th. The TU Libraries Blog has also featured many entries with advice about how to write abstracts.

Presentation strategies

ขอนำแนวทางในการตรวจสอบตนเองในการพูดหรือนำเสนอ แม้ว่าจะได้แนวทางนี้จากการฝึกพูดภาษาอังกฤษก็ตาม แต่เทคนิคเหล่านี้ สามารถนำมาประยุกต์ใช้กับการเตรียมการพูดหรือนำเสนอโดยทั่วไปได้ค่ะ (Guidelines for checking own progress in making presentation in English)

Part I: Write 3 (often), 2 (sometimes), 1 (never)

  1. I practice English almost everyday?
    – I listen to the news in English
    – I read aloud or speak English
    – I write something in English
  2. I check website or read books to find new ideas.
  3. I identify the audience before I prepare my presentation.
  4. I write and rewrite my presentation a couple of times.
  5. I rehearse before I give a presentation, trying to stress or pause before important issues.
  6. I check the venue and equipment before I give a talk.
  7. I take a deep breath before I walk to the podium.
  8. I visualize myself doing a good presentation.
  9. I tell myself that I can do it well as I am well prepared.
  10. I do a small talk with some of the audience to establish human touch.
  11. I make a good start by starting with a problem.
  12. I capture the audience’s interest by telling them our success story.
  13. I prepare the audience by outlining the key areas I will talk about.
  14. My presentation has clear introduction, body and ending.
  15. I sum up key areas I have covered and strongly propose a course of actions.
  16. I believe in my ideas and speak with enthusiasm.
  17.  I stress or pause before the important points.
  18.  My voice is loud and clear.
  19.  I use visuals to support my talk (ie;…………………)
  20.  I maintain eye contact with audience.
  21. The audience understand the points I want to make.

Part II:

  1. If I have to rate my presentation I will give it 1/2/3. 1 for needing improvement. 3 for very good.
